Certified Master Dog Trainer
Max discovered his passion and gift for caring for animals when he got his first dog, Calvin, at the age of seven. Years later while Max was attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, he found himself missing something: the selfless companionship of dogs. That's when Roscoe, an energetic German Shepherd, entered his life. He worked with Roscoe and multiple trainers in the Denver area for over 5 years to build a strong foundation of obedience, scent-work, and protection. Max found that training dogs was his calling in life, and that he had a natural talent for it. Max and Roscoe certified as a K9 Search and Rescue team in Colorado in 2010 and responded to calls together for 5 years. Roscoe lost the battle to cancer in retirement after a long and honorable career. Roscoe, 3/6/2010 - 5/3/2018.
In January 2016, Max attended the Tom Rose School for Professional Dog Trainers and completed both the Professional Dog Trainer and Master Dog Trainer programs. This experience drastically improved his training skill set and conceptual understanding of canines. He participated in all phases of training and client interaction, and excelled in pet and competition obedience, competition and Search and Rescue tracking, specific odor detection, protection, and dog and human aggression management. At the Tom Rose School, he also worked with Got Your Six, a non-profit organization training PTSD alert dogs for veterans in need. By the end of his time at the Tom Rose School, Max not only had his professional and master training certifications, but he also trained over 50 pet dogs, helped with over 150 working dogs, and achieved a PSA K9 PDC title on his own 11-month-old puppy, Booker.
Max continues to compete in PSA, and in 2018, was a National Competitor with his dog Booker in the PSA2’s. He is looking to expand into other suit sports like French Ring and Mondioring, as well as IPO. Max is also part of a small working dog club, meeting frequently to work sport and police k9 aspects.
booker of Crooked creek
Booker is an all black German Shepherd raised for competition. Max and Booker completed two legs of the PSA2 routine in the 2018 season, earning the PSA2 title. He is one of a few German Shepherds to ever earn this title. Booker is now training for the PSA3’s, and will be competing in this class come the 2020 trial season.
kaya van den huevel
Kaya is a strong female with extreme prey drive. She is 2.5 years old and getting ready to enter the PSA2’s. She is very obedient, but also has very strong instincts. We will be on the field competing during the 2019 trial season.
Batman is a young, enthusiastic Dutch Shepherd that loves to fly and bite. He is deceptively powerful because of his small size. He has a bright future in sport, but would also make a great dual-purpose Police K9. Max and Batman will be showing for the PSA PDC and the PSA1 in the 2019 trial season.
